Fattoria Biò is an organic farm born from the experience of four generations of the Grillo family. The name Fattoria Biò expresses the synthesis of the "Philosophy of Tommaso Grillo", a passionate breeder and a point of reference for Calabrian pastoralism.
Fattoria Biò likes to define itself as a farm with kitchen, first of all there is the farm, which has always been run organically, it extends for about 100 hectares in Sila and 50 hectares in Marina in Rossano, it is the result of experience of four generations of shepherds, who still make the transhumance from the Sila to the Marina, from Camigliatello to Rossano, a good 55 km on foot, a tradition, an emotion that is repeated every year in January and June.
As tradition has it, the "Mandria De "i Vecchio" as the Grillo family is called, has always left the Sila, which in winter becomes stiff and with little fresh grass, to go to Rossano, where the climate is mild and the grass is fresh until spring, and then again in Sila in June, just after the sheep have been sheared.
Fattoria Bio is located in the agricultural area par excellence of the Silano plateau, Lagarò, here it cultivates potatoes and wheat, vegetables, pastures for the herds, in the Rossano headquarters in the marina it cultivates citrus fruits and olives.The zootechnical part is the heart of the company, it breeds sheep and goats, cows, to crown a multifunctional management it raises pigs.
From milk he obtains sheep and goat cheeses from caciocavallo cows, mozzarella and butter, and both fresh and seasoned ricottas.
Nero Di Calabria produces cured meats from native breed pigs, vegetables from the gardens, used fresh and transformed into delicious preserves.
The farm's products are of the highest quality and very rare goodness, following the rules of the organic method, respecting nature and traditions.
The secret of everything is the earth, which is respected, patiently waiting for the rotation of the land, using manure from the herd to fertilize it; the rest of the work is done by nature, aided by an uncontaminated environment, by the water from the springs and by the cool climate in the summer period, harsh in the winter period.
The result of this combination of factors and passion for a job well done are the products of Fattoria Biò, such as oil, vegetables, meat, cheeses and cured meats, which have a taste that is difficult to reproduce elsewhere.
To guarantee the consumer, the law provides that organic products are certified by a specific company, which for Fattoria Biò is the "ECOCERT".
